So, you’re engaged!? This is SO exciting and I hope you’re soaking in every minute of this time. After you get engaged, you’re likely running through the steps of what you do next (and I get it, there is a LOT that goes in to planning a wedding). Today I’m sharing with you the FIRST 3 things you should do when you get engaged, and believe it or not, it does not include booking vendors!
- Celebrate!
Before you begin planning your dream wedding, take time to relax and enjoy this moment. Share an evening with family and friends and celebrate the start of a new journey for the two of you. There is plenty of time to work out the details later, I promise!
- Budget
Before you begin to secure a venue or church, talk together and with your families and figure out what you are wanting to spend for your wedding. Budgeting is not the most fun aspect of wedding planning, BUT it is so much easier to plan when you are all aware of what you can splurge on. If you would like help keeping track of expenses, here is my free budget tracker and checklist to help you get started. Doing so will help you with step number 3…
- Prioritize
Once you have your budget, the next step is to figure out what aspects of your wedding are most important to you and you would want to allocate more of your budget to. For some, it may be the venue, others photography, or videography, or your wedding dress. Whichever you choose as your most important, those are the first vendors you will want to secure right away. Most wedding vendors book 12-18 months in advance, and this is not meant to scare you, just to keep you aware that if one item is more important over another, you do that research first and secure your favorite vendors.
