Selecting and designing your perfect Wedding Day Cake can be simple… BUT it’s important to keep these 6 things in mind when you and your fiancé are making your final decisions.
1. Don’t choose the style of cake before you have narrowed down the theme/style of your wedding.
You may be reading this and think, duh Sarah… of course you shouldn’t do this. But, let me tell ya, it’s so easy to get caught up in finding all of these pretty cakes, and then realize you’ve selected a cake that will melt during that hot summer ceremony 😉 Which leads me to my next tip…
2. Don’t forget to consider the weather.
Consider the season and location of your wedding. If you’re having a wedding outdoors in June/July, you may want to steer away from a whipped or buttercream icing (those will melt). I greatly recommend asking your baker for suggestions for the best fit for you.
3. Do have a budget in mind.
More often than not a cake is priced per slice, but one way to have the cake of your dreams and dessert for your guests is to do a Bride and Groom cake, and cupcakes for the guests! Often times if your close on a budget, you can do faux tiers covered in icing to match, and have the top layer as a true cake for you to both cut in to!
4. Do think outside of the box.
If you had to choose, between all dessert options out there, would cake be one of them? In some cases a cake is the way to go, OR you can select a dessert that you and your fiancé love and make a “cake” out of that! Pies, scotcharoos (yes, scotcharoos!), pies, you name it. This moment is significant for the both of you, and you should enjoy every last bite of it.
5. Don’t forget to top it off.
Select a cake topper that will have meaning (if you want one)! A few ideas for this could be an heirloom topper (which can also play off of your something borrowed), a Mr. + Mrs. sign, a custom wedding topper of you and your fiancé (and mayyybe your furry little friends 😉)
6. Do taste the cake before you select your bakery.
Every bakery has their little twists when it comes to their craft – which is great! But that means you can’t assume your favorite flavor(s) will taste the same from each baker you visit, so it’s best to sample any and all flavors your considering!
